Prayers to be Learned

Students in our religious education programs are encouraged to experience a variety of prayer formats, including memorized traditional prayers.

NOTE:  Regardless of their current grade level, all First Communion candidates must memorize and recite all Grade 1 and Grade 2 prayers in addition to their grade-level prayers.  Some of the these Grade 1 and Grade 2 prayers are useful in preparing for the Sacrament of Confession (or in the penance that is assigned during Confession) and should be memorized and recited before the date of First Confession.  Other prayers in the Grade 1 and Grade 2 lists can be memorized and recited after the date of First Confession.

Click on the links to individual prayers below to view/print sheets of manipulatives to help First Communion candidates memorize these prayers.
  • Before First Confession:  The Sign of the Cross, The Lord's Prayer, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Ten Commandments, Brief Examination of Conscience, Act of Contrition, and the "Bless Me, Father" conversation which occurs with God and the priest in the Confessional
  • After First Confession:  Angel of God, Prayer before Meals, The Apostles' Creed
  • As time passes, Mrs. Frances hopes to link manipulatives for prayers associated with other grade levels in our programs

The following links will provide grade-level Prayer Sheets for students in our religious education and Sacramental prep programs.

NOTE:  Because Father Melancon encourages us all to recite and review our "First Communion" prayers on a daily basis, the prayer sheets for Grades 3-11 will also include First Communion prayers.
